Primary Objectives of Save Our Santa Rosa

(from Non-Hosted Short-Term Rentals)

  1. To have the City of Santa Rosa substantially reduce the number of Non-Hosted Short-Term Rentals in residential neighborhoods.
  2. To support those residents of Santa Rosa who desire to rent a portion or even their entire primary residence to guests on a short-term basis.
  3. To have the City of Santa Rosa adopt an updated Short-Term Rental (STR) Ordinance that can be readily enforced and achieve all the stated purposes of the current STR Urgency Ordinance (City Code Section 20-48.010). These stated purposes are to establish operating standards that,
    1. ensure short-term rental activities do not become (continue to be) a nuisance to, or threaten the public peace, welfare, health, or safety of neighboring properties
    2. preserve (restore) the City’s limited housing stock for permanent residents
    3. retain (restore) the residential characteristics of neighborhoods
    4. facilitate the collection of Transient Occupancy Taxes (TOT) and Business Improvement Area (BIA) assessments
  4. To impress upon City staff and Council Members that most Non-Hosted STR are being run as businesses like small hotels and constitute an industry that cannot peacefully exist in residential neighborhoods.
  5. To blunt the misinformation being touted by those groups and individuals who are in favor of unrestricted STR operations – generally members of the real estate profession and real estate investors (often living out of the area) whose primary goal is to profit from STR by exploiting weak regulations and residential neighborhoods without regard or respect for the damages caused to our community.
